Alright,

I've been trying to use the Zen Monk (ZM) rune for a while... it seems like it has a lot of potential; but, at the same time, it seems chaotic as to when it will work for you (or me rather).

I understand, when one is still (and not using a weapon), the ZM will kick in... usually there is a groan that indicates that it is active. Most times it is invincible (while fully engaged), but there seems to be some exceptions as to when the ZM rune will protect you.

I've observed the ZM's protection while in motion (with a growl sound)... I not totally sure how I am protected at these times.

An opportunity to pimp my guide: Guide

Slot charges $1 for each rune you read in the guide, so make sure you only read the ones you need to.

Splinter that's one of the worse newb runes that there is, you can stand still all you want a BFG is still gonna kill you. This rune has no potential and the sound it makes when you move is to give away your position.

Zen Monk ranks amongst the most powerful runes.

You take *NO* splash damage from rockets at any time (except a Berserker rocket).

This means someone has to direct hit you with a rocket to hurt you. The odds of a rocket hit from a rocket are pretty bad in any mod (if you play CAx notice how few "directs" players have when doing "EFF" to see stats).

In RuneQuake with a grappling hook the odds are even worse!

[When confronting a Zen Monk using player, the lightning gun is the best way to handle the situation if you have one.]

Another nice thing about Zen Monk is --- if I recall correctly --- you don't get falling damage. But in RuneQuake with the grapple this isn't too likely to matter that much.

<-- All of that has no use to me, rune-delete, jack of all runes acquired, now that's one of the most powerful runes.

There is also this guide --> http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-talk/q%20...%20night.html

Zen is hilarious for annoying ppl, and doing hit and runs, etc. Does the same to me too though, you think ur zen, stood still for 5 seconds, and wham! dead. Maybe some environmental rune, like a far off well, is preventing your character from being fully at rest.

I'd argue that Zen is crap too because it can be countered with Impact rune, BFG (note that direct BFG hits won't kill zen player, has be off a wall or ground nearby), Repulsion can kick someone out of zen, Dual Recall can telefrag them, Recall can telefrag them, also Teleport can telefrag them, best combo is to light them on fire with a fire gun (or Fire rune), then BFG them - they will have to move or die :)

OG is the zen master. Ask him about it.

I actually enjoy setting Zen Monks on fire and then just leaving them there.
