Post subject:  Aggrivation with ALT-WEAPON accidents

Is there a way for ME to disable the alternate weapons turning on,for just myself?

like ,

some comand in console that I can stop the use of them for just me. I can't count how many times I go to use the RL and im stuck on the Richochet RL which screws me up :(

You can use weapon-toggles and that will prevent the alternate weapons from appearing if you hit the corresponding weapon key twice. To prevent alternate weapons from appearing when using the cycle weapons key use cycle-alternates.

Keep in mind that you can set the default mode of a weapon key (default keys 1-8) by using the weapon-mode command. For example, if you are yielding the axe and you type "weapon-mode", every time you press the '1' key it will default to the hook instead of axe.

An alternative way to access alternates are using the weapon# (1-16) and +sattack# (1-16) bindings.

shit, so that didn't work for me. I might just be screwed on this one because I've been using mwheelup (rolling it makes it 'occur' several times) as my quick RL bind for ages now, and even with


cycle-alternates

enabled, it is still cycling past regular RL and blue key richochet RL whenever I roll my mouse wheelup.

I'm guessing that cycle-alternates when it's set to the "Do Not" setting, shouldn't be allowing any alt weapons to be chosen/cycled to.

What impulse or alias do you have to the wheel? I tested it with

bind mwheelup "impulse 10"
bind mwheeldown "impulse 12"

and it worked for me.

cycle-alternates is a toggle, so when you see "alternate weapons do not cycle", using impulse 10 and 12 shouldn't produce any alternates in your cycle.

thats the only issue, its the same as pushing 7 twice (the wheel offers a fast access to RocketLauncher,but is crippled by the Ricochet)


On one hand I like gas grenades (I use the default button 6 for it, hit the button twice)

so, rolling wheel up can easily be over-done and it cycles between RL and Ricochet. If there isn't an easy way to circumvent "double impulse 7" accidents then I can survive with my current setup, and just be really careful to not roll it beyond that first weapon switch. I have been lately just making sure the blue key / alt weapon indicator doesnt light up.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong :D

Using weapon-toggles should prevent you from hitting a weapon key twice and triggering it's alternate. Using cycle-alternates should prevent the alternates when using the next weapon/prev weapon impulses.

These commands must be entered only once each time you connect to the server. It is a quakec (server side) command so it should work for you regardless of the client you're using.

The binding I was talking about was simply using the same key for multiple attacks. For example, the sattack I use for lighting (+sattack8) is bound to the ' \ ' key. I use this same key to fire a sticky bomb (+sattack13) but I first hold down the shift key.

over my head haha. I'll stick to the weapon-toggles. I wouldn't know how to integrate that into my current config.

I'm reluctant to change things bout it but just in case I still have this book marked, one day when I'm bored I'll duplicate my Quake folder and toy with it in there.
