Good point about gas grenades underwater. Makes sense that you're not breathing underwater.

I was wondering too if you have the enviro rune that you shouldn't feel the effects of gas much like radiation? Same goes with the Enviro suit.

Just double checked and Enviro does protect against gas. I think I was getting nailed with splash damage thinking it was gas doing the damage.

 One possible way to explain why gas emits in water is because it's not your conventional gas but more of a radiation grenade.

I also asked about the gas bleeding through walls, which is an issue. That too might be fixable......

The lava splash effect is not fixable as it's a client side issue. I fixed the damage portion of this when I added the grenades but I thought it looked odd to see the effect and not experience any damage so I changed it back.

The bleeding through walls actually creates some interesting scenarios. You can phase under the floor in start and spam grenades to the top of the stairs that lead down to end. The gas bubbles up through the floor and affects people running through.

Finally a reason to use phase?

There are a couple of good uses for phase. !H has perfected using it in E1M3 to hide above one of the dropped ceilings and spam grenades through a tiny space into the gameplay area. Meatwad and I sometimes use it to phase into voids in the maps so that people can't reach us. Also good for sneaking up on campers in E2M1, E2M3 and E3M2. You can use it to get above the bars in the ceiling in E3M3 and fly guided missiles around the map.

I'm pretty sure the gas is made of viruses that cause harm, but quake dude's immune system catches up in a few seconds and it no longer harms.

You shouldn't stop pointing things out because they don't get changed. You should actually do the opposite. If you feel strongly about something let it be known. If other people agree with your ideas, encourage them to speak up.

Your pointed out that gas grenades shouldn't cause damage under water, because the player isn't breathing and this seems to defy physics. In a game where you take rockets to the face and live, I don't think that's a strong enough argument by itself, especially when addressing a feature that has been around for a long time. In addition, one could even argue that the grenade has a special sensor that detects water and is able to release harmful radiation much like the radiation traps, instead of an airborne toxin. I have no personal preference on this issue, and if the consensus is to get rid of gas underwater, that works for me. I don't think the change will make much of a difference and if your only goal is not to defy laws of physics, there are many ways to rationalize this particular effect.
