Here is a config file I wrote several years ago to demonstrate how to manipulate the values associated with the chase_active command to allow players to see through walls without using cheats of any kind.

cam.cfg

The good news is that chase_active is disabled on cheat-free servers.

If you're using a client other than the original winquake or glquake the example cam.cfg might not work properly for you.

Is it a bug or a feature? There are a lot of people that consider transparent water a cheat, because those with glquake clients can see the structures (and somtimes entities) in water. These are issues I wasn't looking to seek the answer of. I was just sharing my findings.

I believe it could be both. We were testing it out earlier in the level START. Apparently an individual could toggle this command line when browsing the level. Wouldn't think its fair when the individual knows whos around the corner. For your GL statement, I cannot reply to that since I only use WinQuake.

Can this exploit be used while the player is active in the game?

I don't have experience with this exploit, but if the above is true, it'll hurt competition and posting a convenient link to a config would be gratuitous.

Yes.

If the config file is used as is, it will change your name to "cam_user" and will do a 'say cam_active' every time you use it.

still yet slot , this is a stepbackwards in the aspect of "fair play".

a player knowing how to edit config's could easily undo the name change/say command when the chase cam goes active,and a player who knows how to bind shouldnt have problems setting up their own version..

maybe skip caring about cheaters and post links to bots/pak2 spike cheats as well along in this post also....

as to caring about cheaters was tossed out the window in this post , might as well throw other cheats in the mix as well aye

I have been trying to see your logical reason for posting that, but i'm at a loss. I remember when you first posted that cheat on the admin forum a few years ago and that was the place to do it.

Letting players know that there is such a cheat without actually posting the cfg woulda sufficed.

I know you had a good reason for posting it, I just wish you would fill us in on what that reason was. Maybe you just made a mistake?

Call it a hunch but I don't think this will affect the community all that much. For those of you who are really concerned, I will setup a Rune Quake cheat-free server for you.

I don't know you personally, Pita, but I believe you do not cheat. I can say that about at least a dozen other players. I don't think by posting this information you, or any of the others will quickly download the latest cheat and start using it. Most of us here have been around for years, we know what is right and wrong. For those that don't, they will have to learn the hard way.

I'm also getting the feeling as though a lot of you think I'm uncovering some hidden bag of tricks that only we know, but the truth is, it's always been there and available to everyone. I have faith in this wonderful Quake community to be honest players.

Hell.. I can't even camp worth a crap :) And all of those files are easy to still find.. I like to look at these things just like the next guy.. see what they can do.. and hopefully how to detect them. Not knowing about them IS the worst thing.. More so if you admin! Too many faulty bans.. :( Yet some well deserved and good catches!

chase_active is not the bad command anyways. The other chase commands are! Infact chase active can be used to detect qb1.7 a,b,c,d,f.
