A year or 2 ago I tried Open Office 1.2 and it was ok, it was better than buying Microsoft Office but there were things I didn't like.

I hadn't paid any attention to it in a while.

I guess earlier in the year there was a big deal about the drafting of a universal "Open Document Format" and it has been adopted by 3 or 4 major companies and various governments.

At some point Open Office 2.0 was released and is supposedly a major improvement over version 1.

Haven't tried it yet, too many Quake files taking up my hard drive space, but version 2.0 is supposed to kick some ass :D

Open Office > M$ Office

Open Office has all the features I need while M$ Office is cluttered with "features"

There is also Star Office. It's not free. Though I have not tried it myself. http://www.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/

I thought Open Office used Star Office as the initial code base.
