Just out of curiousity, wanted to start a thread on who thinks who is the top 5 players on the quake.shmack.net:26000 server. Post your replies here! Can't think of your top 5? How about your top two?

In no particular order:

Hydro
Quazy
Yugo2Heck
Slugnut
Pendragon (I think I know his current alias)

The first 3 play anonymously or nearly anonymously close to 100% of the time. None of those players can be beat skill-wise, but I'm sure they can lose on spam maps and 12+ player scenarios where map domination isn't possible and it becomes a game of how fast can you hunt down slowpokes and fresh spawns.

the rest do not play

i beat all of the rest on bakers list, and these 2 are more manageble to me now - as of 2008.8.24.

hydro i beat by a large margin 1on1 runes - hes a great sport.
i beat yugo pretty often also, unless he is very far behind - which mostly is the case, his ffa games are close, he plays under wierd/silly names.

pen been out, have not seen him on RQ servers since long, and if he does play i would surely recon his style and spot him.

i beat him once 14 to 11 or something in runes 1on1. he is a GREAT player, great speed (maybe faster than me - then, not now 2008.8.24) - his DM skills are sub-par. when i pointed this out to him, he did not really seem to care.

he beat quazy in runes once (longer time ago) - quaz was rusty or something.

id be interesting to see quaz and slug clash...quaz is more versatile but slug has crazy ground skillz.

I can only comment on the players who actually show up and play under their names. I don't track IP's so I don't know who people are when they use fake names and I really don't care. My take is if you can't play with your own name than I don't care about you :D

The best player on Shmack, besides me of course, is Slugnut. He's awsome. Several years ago I used to think DFG was the best. I loved when he came on cause it was a big challenge to win the game with him on the server. Now it's the same with Slug.

BTW, where's DFG? Haven't seen him in a long time.

players with anon names
it's kinda stupid, either use your own name consistently or dont
nobody gives a shit about aliases and figuring out whos who.

yea slug is awesome, so was dfg
last i heard, dfg's gf left him, and he went to play ut2k4 this was in late 04 never heard of him since. he was quite fascinated with UT tho.

about whos the best...
i am leaning towards gohan (close 2nd Tical, but he doesnt play runes)
killer reflexes, awesome talent, unparallel skillz and strategy
overall the best player i ever saw bar none.
wish he'd be back.

Yellow and I saw DFG a few months ago and due to his rustyness, I beat DFG at Rocket Arena pretty handily.

Hydro and Yugo2Heck play almost every day.

Hydro goes by Volt or Loop Naiee or some other name and is almost always white; Yugo2Heck uses a different name every time. Quazy uses different names but is almost always red.

I have to agree that it is kind of lame when people dont use their common aliases, they must not want their pride to get hurt, but its part of the game so why complain...

Tia I didnt know you were Paradise till the other day when I was reading some of these old posts where someone adressed you as such. Does Idalis play anymore, If I remember correctly she doesn't really like me =)

I've played with loop naiee a few times recently and beaten him. He's above average but I wouldn't put him in the top 5. Unless maybe he's rusty and making a comeback...?

order:

Toyo
Sole
Beast (I think he is also "No Sound")
Slugnut
?

Occasionally an unknown player will show up on shmack with an amazing LG and incredible ground skills...maybe this the DFG or Quazy you all speak of. I've never played with either of them under those names at least that I can remember so I can't put them on my list - I'll just leave it as a "?" I wouldn't mind 1v1'ing either of them one day :)

Paradise (Tia) is a tough one. Steve and Toyo also make it on the list. Lately there has been some red guy who seems to change names often... he pwns!!!

If the player is red, it is almost certainly Quazy.

If the player is white, it probably is Hydro.

The easiest way for me to suspect someone is Hydro is some white player keeps beating the crap out of me and shafting me in the air. Hydro's IP begins 70.x.x.x ... hehe. :D

Hydro is known for being AFK and going easy on people and doing other things while playing Quake.

He can easily beat me at deathmatch, rocket arena and Rune Quake ... not once in a while, but almost every single time and usually do it by a dishearteningly wide margin. He's much faster with the hook too. And Yellow and I once played Hydro at Instagib on Quake 3 and he kicked our asses there too.
