The grapple is more of a factor in Rune Quake than the runes themselves. It is far too potent. Not only does it make every map less unique, it makes players rely on it in lieu of basic dodging, attacking and navigational skills. Just how reliant we've become on it is evidenced by the frustration that usually ensues when playing without one after a long interval.
I've advocated that it be curtailed since removing it will drive players away. One idea is to expose the player to double damage whenever it's activated. Another idea is for it to only inflict armor damage to the hooked victim.
