Hey what's up.....so I just installed Quake onto a computer, and it's acting all crazy. When I launch winquake, the demo that plays is going like 500% faster than it should be....and when I try to connect to shmack it instantly says it connected but then just sits there with the cursor blinking a million miles an hour and nothing else. Even the single player is like 10x faster than it should be like someone hit the fast forward button. Not really sure what to do....I tried installing with and without the "OpenGL" drivers. I've never had this happen on any other system. I expect a resolution to this issue by the end of the day or you're all fired!!

I assume you installed original off of '96 CD version with no updates.

Well things have changed since then..

Baker's ProQuake is best out there, dl it and point it to yer Quake directory.

Quake doesn't work on some computers. You just have to start playing a new game.

You can achieve that effect with the command

host_framerate 1

So, perhaps it is already on for you for some reason, so do this:

host_framerate 0

That is a multi-core processor issue. The speed gets all messed up because original Quake's clock code is foobar'd.

Fixed clients with proper clock code:

ProQuake 3.99 http://www.quakeone.com/proquake
Qrack http://www.quakeone.com/qrack

And DarkPlaces and JoeQuake are fixed as well. No other Quake clients are fixed (and this includes ProQuake 3.50, GLQuake, etc. etc.)

Baker helped me with this problem before. There's a solution that lets you keep using the client of your choice: download a program that can tell quake to only run on one core. I use "Get and Set CPU Affinity by Ed Wilk", but there are others.

Windows lets you assign affinities. In the task manager, right click on your quake executable, and select 'Assign Affinity'
