Post subject:  Odd luck ..

Today I called my cable to jack my cable broadband up to a higher speed level:

Baker:

Hi I want to upgrade my cable speed to the fastest one you have

Cable phone rep:

Ok.

Baker:

When will that take effect?

Cable phone rep:

Within 24 hours ... your new monthly rate will be $54 per month

Baker (Hmmm, that seems wrong ...):

What am I paying now?

Cable phone rep:

$65 (<--- that's my cable AND cable broadband)

So obviously (??) by upgrading my speed level, my grandtotal payment to the cable company will, of course, drop $10 from $65 to $54 per month. Does this make sense, well ... no.

My cable company has a new rate plan and it's not supposed to available for existing customers -- only new customers ---, but I guess since I switched speed levels their computer kicked me into the new rate plan so (cable+cable broadband total bill which was previously $65) so by upgrading to a higher speed level I am saving $10 per month instead of paying $10 MORE.

That's a $20 x 12 months = $240 savings over the course of a year.

Moral of the story ... thank god computers run everything! I'm not supposed to get the great rate they have been promoting on TV, but their computer's gave it to me.

Thanks, computers!

Where I live, it's $55 dollars a month just for cable internet. Another $30-$50 for cable TV. There is only one or 2 companies that have it here, so they charge what they want.

In my area, SBC Amerilosers is offering DSL for either $29.99 per month or $34.99 per month or $49.99 per month. I hear their ads on the radio for $29.99 per month, and they send junk mailings to me offering it for $34.99 per month. Do they think people are stupid? It requires a one-year commitment. SBC sucks, I wouldn't get DSL from them if it was free.

My cable company, Wide Open West, is promoting Cable + Cable Internet for only $44.99 per month. I have their service, but I wasn't on the this great pricing plan until my post above.

Another cable company, Insight Communications, is offering RoadRunner for $44.99 per month (even though Time Warner advertises RoadRunner for much less than that on the radio, Insight isn't Time Warner, and they don't). So if you are already paying $35 for cable, cable + Internet for them would be $54.99 + $35 = 79.99 per month.

Hmmm, $44.99 with Wide Open West or $79.99 with Insight Communications.

Wide Open West is a very good company. I've been very happy with them and I consider myself lucky to be in their service area.
