Evening all
I remember seeing what I thought to be a very impressive video some years ago (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjJx7BqV6Yo) detailing how quake 1 would look with a fresh coat of paint using a new engine such as the Unreal engine. Now I'm no artist or Pro Game Dev coder but after much "fettling" whilst having a few days over my Christmas break, and grabbing a copy of the QRP textures (thanks [Moon]Drunk) I ported one of the levels across, added in some additional graphic enhancements and tried to get it to work in Unity. It's not a patch on the Unreal version linked above but it didn't turn out quite as bad as I was expecting....

I'll post a few more screenshots shortly but just for fun, can you tell what map it is yet? :)

Kind regards
Monty

Looks good, I like it - but a bit bare and dark. I'd say the lava looks particularly ferocious - like a thick magma maybe hehe. Perhaps with some more dedicated work this could become an upload to MODDB and I'd play it and show-case it on my YT channel - that is if you choose to go forth with it

Thanks Gem,
To be honest I have done other quake levels (see https://quakevoid.wordpress.com/project ... t-of-time/) as part of a little learning project but this was just a stab at e1m6 while a had some spare time (which is a rare thing for me to have these days  ). I've got most of the doors, teleporters, lifts and buttons working but at present I haven't got the monsters rigged. You are right, like the original version the level is a little bare. I've already added lava steam/smoke, some torches and therefore shadows, and custom grates, etc but I'll try and add a bit more "set dressing" to make it a little more interesting. I might take another look at the Arcand Dimesnions mod or some of the mapjam packs for inspiration :)
In the meantime, I guess I could do a "map preview" version so interested ppl could just run around the levels, see if they like it, and give me feedback as to what's good and what's bad.

Kind regards
Monty
