Poll ... need this information. I am going to write up a list of video cards that work well with Quake. Like, ones currently sold mostly but if you have an older one I still would like to know.

If you CANNOT use GL Quake and don't have a video card (so you are using OEM video adapter or whatever term is) ... what brand of computer and model do you have?

I'm trying to draft up some decent information on what will and won't work with Quake.

If you don't what video card you have, it's easy to find out.

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel

Click on Display and then click the settings tab:

Then your video card is shown like above. My computer uses an NVIDIA GeForce2 (which was like $50 whenever I bought it).

I have 1 computer with a GeForce.

It was a Dell and the stupid Intel Extreme Graphics Controller than came with it would do Quake 3 but not Quake 1. JoeQuake didn't exist at the time, so I don't know if the Intel Extreme Graphics Controller would do JoeQuake.

(JoeQuake works better with my GeForce than ProQuake, makes me think there is something different. GL Quake tried to run, but couldn't quite do it on my Intel Extreme Graphics controller. Irritates me because Dell's are so popular.)

My old computer has a Voodoo card of some sort and runs GL. My laptop has a Radeon, it also does GL Quake just fine.

Radion is made by ATI. I have an ATI Radion 7500, old but gets the job done.

Maybe I should have chose ATI since it's a Radeon card made by ATI... but looking at the options, I think they're supposed to be the same. Unless you had Nvidia and GeForce as different options...

My GeForce4 MX 440 can run Tremor and JoeQuake at 60-30 fps. So now you guys figure if it can run GlQuake ;).

I have a Radeon 9800 XT w/256 meg of memory. Running a P4 2.2 ghz with 1 gig of memory. 2 Raided serial 160 gig drives. Quake boots in 2 seconds flat. Your fps is dependant upon the resolution you use. At 800X600, I average 500-600 fps. I have seen it peak at 856 fps when nothing is moving.

I play in 1024X768 mode because it offers me more precision aim and a greater viewable screen and because I seem to have no CPU suffering from it. I also use a 25" monitor. My machine is total overkill to quake technology. It's like having a 600 hp engine in a moped. It's meaningless because the moped's gear ration only lets the moped go 30mph. I really can't tell the difference between 90 fps and 500 fps. I don't think it is humanly possible to tell.
