No demos this time, if I see it again I will make sure to get one. I finally have a connection that works, so now I can actually get a good demo. If it happens again I will be sure to get a demo. More than anything I was just wondering if it was possible. I have noticed that often when you catch someone at something they leave very quickly too. Imagine that. LOL

Yes, pak2 does not defeat camo.
No, there are other cheats that could.

We know a bot can read a velocity (speed and direction) of a player to aim a shot exactly, but it seems to be forgotten that it also needs the target's location as well. Therefore, the location of a player is readable.

Is player info even sent for a camo'ed player? There isn't a model to display.

I don't think any cheat or bot can detect a camo'ed player under any circumstances.

It's actually very easy if you know how to mimic packets through the quake streams. The only barrier between hackers and the game is how far you can go before it's illegal. But if the server is ran by an admin who doesn't know anything about the ethernet, TCP/IP and UDP then there isn't much the server can do to prevent and track the people down.

To be blunt with rune quake, it's only a matter of sniffing.

Ok, the responses that were posted were as I thought. I only ran ISP's and only learned how to hunt down the people causing problems with my clients. So if you were attacking me or my clients, then I could do something about it, but since that is not the case, I haven't taken time to learn about it. Maybe someday when I have more time I will do more research on how Quake and Gaming packets work. But who has time? I sure don't. Hence the number of entries in here. LOL Anyway, thanks to all, atleast I know it is possible as I thought, and I know I am not going that nuts. Well any more nuts than I was.

Well there are a number of possibilities on how this could of happened. And the most likely one is the player was being moved and became visible. Another likely one is everyone is full of talk, lets see proof.

Ok, I understand the point of what all of you are saying on the BOT thing. I have been called a BOT some too, and it is really kinda funny. But one thing that no one has mentioned yet is what happens when 2 players are the same distance? What does the BOT do? Well Grim and I were playing one night and we ended up just right, the bot was twitching trying to target both of us. Well it didn't fire until one of us fired, then it is a Fire and Forget tactic and flipped and fragged me. Well, the same BOT showed up about 4 weeks later, 3 of us couldn't move without being fragged, we couldn't even respawn without being fragged. After the 3 of us trying to live more than 2 seconds SPEED showed up. Well speed couldn't even touch this one. So we all came in at once and still all 4 of us were fragged in less than 8 seconds. Now a human cannot track, lock, fire, and avoid on 4 targets at once, especially if you cannot see them all. If you can I am sure that the Government has a job for you!
I think my point has been made.
I seldom see anything that resembles a BOT anymore, PAK user YES, but even then, too much information with too many people on a small map makes it hard to follow everything.
NUFF SAID!

I keep hearing people saying that they use the PAK. What does this mean?

paks are the type of file quake uses to load maps, textures, sounds etc. Look in id1 folder, youll see pak0 and pak1. So people seem to think its possible to load a bot of some kind too. Most people who make this accusation of "pak using" dont even know that paks are used to load custom maps (i confirmed that this was the case with sufr), so the accusation of using pak2 sounds ridiculous. part of the bot calling is having this fake invented vocabulary

Well I knew what paks were originally for but the way you mention how you can store bots in it is interesting. You can run quake without using any pak files, it's just a secure way (or was) to keep files from being distributed, etc.

Anyways, just wondering what ppl ment by the term.

Bind one of your keys to record a demo, like bind home "record demo". Also bind end "stop" to stop recording. Each time you start a new map hit p, if you see something rename "demo.dem" in your id1 directory before you hit home again. As you pointed out, it's diffifcult for people on the board to speculate over what happened so this way you can show everyone.

Shmack is a busy server because runequake is an appealing mod for newbs. Even if you suck you will stillf frag some very good players sometimes. Slot has also made it as easy as possible for newbs to figure out how to play. If you're refering to Tia, she's not a cheater.

So in my Quake console to record a demo I type:

Bind home "Record demo"

And that binds my HOME key to start recording the demo correct?

And in the Quake console I also type: Bind end "stop"

And that binds the END key to stop recording the demo?

Does it sequentially number the demos in their folders it stores them in automatically? Or does it only record a certain number, like 3 before overwriting old ones with new ones? And hit P for pause? Rename demo.dem? Why? will it overwrite it?
