Scoffer, you need the following:
1) Get your mouse SENSITIVITY setting in Quake so it is fast and then play with it a ton. You are using +mlook, right?
2) Use ProQuake or JoeQuake (has the pinpoint aiming ability)

3) If possible, use GL, although it is easily possible to do well with WinProQuake.
4) Set your config to be maxspeed on any server
5) Turn bobbing and Quad glows off (I'll get to this later).
6) Have a quick grenade bind, also get a Rocket Jump bind.
7) Get a ton of experience in a short time by playing either CRMOD in practice mode or playing some games @ quake.ihoc.net (

Both of those servers have unlimited rockets and you fire, fire, fire, fire. Because of the rate of play is so rapid, your reflexes increase dramatically.
The other day playing on Shmack with Bam and Aaliyah Vamp, Bam told me not to shoot him if he wasn't moving (Bam was being chatty
). I had a hard time not doing that because I instinctively shoot anything on sight with a rocket without thinking about it after I get warmed up.
Do some 1 on 1 play
9) Watch/ride good players. Ironically at Shmack last summer, I rode Crazicracker, some badass named Vegetto and Yugo2Heck a ton.
Crazicracker was a "sound expert" and would fire rockets preemptively based on level sounds, Vegetto was an area control specialist and could have 3 different players pinned down at once and Yugo had some very interesting ways of navigating levels (patterns and such). I learned a great deal from each of them.
Also, somewhere is a demo of Slot Zero beating up on everyone on DM2, beat DM2 demo I've seen.
