Can anyone help me with this? Whenever I try to connect to a server as of late my console sits there and says, "Trying... Still Trying... Still Trying... Connect Failed"

I've tried connecting to multiple servers through gamespy but have been having no luck. Has anyone ever had this problems before? If so, can anyone help me fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Try adding this parameter to your bat file:

-ip xxx.xxx.xxx (replace the x's with your IP).

I added it to my command line, seems that made it work. Thanks a lot

I get the same problem, as for "Try adding this parameter to your bat file: -ip xxx.xxx.xxx (replace the x's with your IP)." Can you be more specific. Thank you.

P.S I'm using Fuhquake as well, will this affect my ability to connect to Rune servers?

P.S.S Where's a good place to find some populated Rune Quake servers?

Seems like most people use command lines instead of bat files these days. If you right click on the icon you use to launch quake you should see something similar to this:

C:\glpro.exe -width 512 -height 384 -iplog -bpp 16

If you are having problems connecting it sometimes helps to specific your IP in the command line like this:

C:\q1\glxpro+.exe -width 512 -height 384 -iplog -bpp 16 -ip 666.666.666.666

Replace the 6's with you IP.

There is a server listing on this site that shows a bunch of Rune Quake Servers...

You got that error even with the IP parameter? Only other thing I can think of is to make sure you don't have a firewall getting in the way.

Yea I did get that with the IP parameter, and yes I have a firewall in the way. I just opened all my ports and it still give me that error. Can you explain to me why it doesn't even let me connect to rune servers? It lets me connect to TF but not Rune. I'm also using Fuhquake.

I'm not familar with Fuhquake. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge of this error will jump in here to help. You might want to mention what operation system you are using and paste your parameter line in the next message.

Are you inserting your actual IP address where you are showing xxx.xxx.xxx.xx? And you should elminate "+gamedir fortress +cfg_load tf" when trying to connect to a Rune Quake server.

You got it. Quake World requires a different client than Rune Quake. You can get a Quake GL client here that will run on Rune Servers: http://www.planetquake.com/quake1/files.shtml

I heard there are other Open GL clients with some nice particle effects, do you have a list of them all?

No I'm afraid I don't. There was a site with a bunch of clients on it, but it went down. Perhaps if the ole guy that ran it is lurking, he'll pipe up.

Another great GL client is QuakeForge at http://www.quakeforge.net They have great visual effects, such as blood splatter that looks like a bloody mist instead of the usual red dots, smoke trails from rockets are very realistic too and when you shoot the shotgun at a wall it sort of looks like sparks flying from the wall. Though I must mention that even though they have a Windows client the project seems mostly geared for Linux OS. If you try the Windows version the SGL client looks best because the GL version seems to have gamma problems. My computer with WinXP is too dark using the GL client.

Just read on another board that Chuck's files can be found HERE.

He has a good collection of clients for Quake.
