running your 1.2-RELEASE runequake mod, using artifact-rjs 3.2.6 as a reference and about 1/3 of the runes use the original skins and the rest use the generic grenade skin

is there a skins pak I need to DL ?

I don't understand what you mean. I don't use custom models. The runes are the actual sigils you get at the end of the single player version of the four episodes. If you're seeing something different, you might be using a custom pak file that displays it incorrectly.

ok, I think I understand:

when I use quake/winquake it never happens.

However, I took the easy way and used nQuake installer to take advantage of my graphics/hardware and desire to start using a quakeworld client, apparently something in that package installed a pak file that is causing this problem.

What would you suggest?

Maybe there's a setting that allows you to use the original pakfile content? I'm not familiar with nQuake, nor could I ever suggest the 'in' client for QuakeWorld. I know that Dark Places can connect to both Quake and Quakeworld servers, but when I tried connecting to a QuakeWorld server [with DP], it was extremely jittery and I didn't have the patience see if it could be configured correctly.

I'll see if I can track it down. Is it a reasonable assumption that the last file loaded has precedence, i.e., if there are files that are named the same in different pak files that the last one load is used?

I found it, its the "MISC.PAK" thats added in the qw directory, however, finding something other than WINPAK that:

a. is not braindead
b. does actually recognised a filesystem with names longer than 7-8 characters (TEXTUR~) is not a user-friendly name!

may take alittle more effort, for now I just moved it out of the directory and presto, the runes are back...
