If you wanted to buy your own copy of Quake, Quake 2, and any other ID game, download and install the latest Steam and purchase them yourself. http://www.steampowered.com/

For such an old game, its hard finding a copy at your local game store. Well not anymore. Even ID's newer games like DOOM3 can be bought from your Steam account. I am not sure how long Valve has been doing this, but I thought I would let all of you know.

my guess is that the music on quake 1 and quake2 does not work right? since it looks for the cd for the background music

Yes, you must have the CD for the background music. Just pop any Audio CD in while your playing.
